An audacious January like Glera, a stern and elegant February like Sangiovese, a warm and velvety March like Merlot…

VCR, Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo multiplies by 12 the wishes for its clients and collaborators through the new concept of its corporate calendar. For 2025, the world's leading reality in viticultural nursery changes its scheme, abandoning the reproductions of ampelographic tables and historical drawings of vineyard work and moving on to snapshots conceived and created to represent the breadth of varietal expression enhanced by the rich clonal selections VCR accumulated in 6 decades of experimental activity.

Twelve months, twelve photographic compositions, a collection of "still lifes" to celebrate the incoming year, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the founding of the VCR Research Center.

The transference action of wine

"Synesthesia" is the title of the work: a perceptive contamination intimately linked to our emotional intelligence, stimulated by the action of the wine, a primordial spark for the evolution of language, rhetoric, and poetry. The interpretation of the 2025 VCR calendar aims to transfer, through the image, the olfactory, gustatory, and tactile sensations of the great varietal wines made with the 540 clones of Vivai Cooperativi.

The working group consisting of Michela Fazio from Studio Fabbro, who curated the art direction, Chiara Moro, who defined the styling, Marco Fabris from Studio Fabbro, who took the photographs, interpreted the texts provided by Lorenzo Tosi of VCR using materials, fabrics, stones as a base and background for three-dimensional compositions of natural, vegetable, animal, and mineral elements, representing the set of suggestions and varietal descriptors present in the different VCR clones of each variety.

Because, as explained in the first table of the calendar, "inside every glass of wine, you can find a colorful symphony of scents, memories, and emotions." The challenge then was to transform, month by month, gustatory and tactile sensations into visual suggestions to rediscover in each varietal wine the aroma of the fruit that generated it. An artwork that aims to recognize the merit of half a century of clonal selection carried out at VCR, Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo, with the aim of enhancing, through top-notch propagation material, the unparalleled blend of sensations transmitted by quality wine.

The key to interpreting the 12 plates

January: Glera

Audacious, aggregating, fun, illuminating.

Semi-aromatic grape variety at the base of Prosecco. VCR's selection involved both Glera with a round biotype (VCR 101), Balbi biotype (VCR 124, VCR 219, VCR 223), and long Glera (VCR 40, 50, 90).

Materials: green apple, golden apple, white flowers, citrus hints, cubes of Carrara white marble. Background: platinum metallic veiled. Base: Fedrigoni pearl paper.

February: Sangiovese

Austere, elegant, noble, vibrant, combative.

Polyclonal grape variety with high variability. VCR clones guarantee the specificity of wine production in different suitable areas. VCR235, for the Chianti biotype, ensures a good content of anthocyanins with spicy hints. VCR23, Romagnolo biotype, rich in color, for long aging, VCR5, Brunello biotype, excellent structure, soft and round tannins. VCR105, VCR109, Morellino biotype, intense and vibrant.

Materials: pink, blackberry, plum, mushrooms, moss, undergrowth, fern. Closed round shapes in themselves, rough bark, and broken by "nervous" fronds. Background: Siena and ruby-colored fabric drape, base in raw cardboard with a "furry" side with soil.

March: Merlot

Soft, warm, plump, velvety, captivating.

It is the international grape variety par excellence. VCR aims to enhance the biodiversity of clones identified worldwide to accentuate elegance, aromatic profile, and polyphenol content as in classic R3, R12, R18 or innovative VCR 488 and 489, capable of enhancing the structure, pleasantness, and typicality of the obtained wines.

Materials: humus, dried plums, black currants, moss, laurel, unique crumbled block of brown tuff with moss. Soft base in brown and beige felt. Background with textured Fedrigoni coffee cardstock.

April: Pinot Grigio

Subtle, brilliant, elegant, icy.

A mutation of Pinot Noir capable of giving complex and suggestive wines. VCR's clonal selection aims to favor freshness and an elegant bouquet with the fruity and good acidity historic R6; elegant and aromatic VCR5, and the new VCR204, VCR206, VCR273 with high performance.

Materials: citrus, ginger, honeycomb, honey, cinnamon, pine cones, bee, jasmine, Verona white marble rocks. Slightly crumpled tissue paper base reminiscent of an ice sheet.

May: Sauvignon Blanc

Wild, lush, sumptuous.

Grape variety capable of giving wines with intense but delicate aromatic scents. VCR's commitment since the establishment of the historical R3 clone but also with the more recent VCR 237 and VCR78 has been to enhance its most elegant expression, with typical balanced herbaceous notes by citrus or tropical fruit when grown in cold climates.

Materials: yellow bell pepper, dried papaya slices, lime and bergamot in various forms, truffle, caper, jasmine. Background and travertine stone worked and rough, iron wire. Off-set base on a pedestal (wall-mounted).

June: Montepulciano

Velvety, intense, warm, ripe.

It is the red grape variety that from the Abruzzo mountains has colonized a large part of the Adriatic coast. In VCR's clonal selection, the aim was to enhance the intense fruity aroma, the richness in polyphenols, the aging aptitude (R7, VCR 100), or the freshness and balsamic qualities for the production of cerasuolo (VCR 454, 456, 462).

Materials: black cherry and cherry, chocolate, bark, ivy leaf, red fruits, wild roses, pomegranate, rock, almonds, draped amaranth velvet that conveys softness and intensity cascading onto the wooden plane.

July: Pinot Bianco

Musical, immediate, rigorous, enchanted.

Chimeric variation of Pinot Noir. It is a flexible, fresh grape variety with a unique aromatic profile, enhanced by VCR with a clonal range ranging from VCR1, VCR7 suitable for sparkling wines, VCR 5, VCR 9, VCR 269 for fruity still wines with good structure, VCR 45 for wood aging.

Materials: almond, poured honey, jasmine, melon seeds, apple. Base and background in various shades of ivory cardstock, striped brick, musical staff on rolling scores.

August: Vermentino

Mediterranean, marine, agile, sharp.

It is the Tyrrhenian grape variety par excellence. Classic clones like VCR 1, VCR 2 (favorita biotype), VCR 3 VCR 367, and 370 (pigato biotype), VCR 162 (Sardinia), aim to support its broad and fresh scents, the dry and delicately aromatic flavor, and also the light aging.

Materials: thyme, Nigella damascena (flower typical of arid Mediterranean areas), bleached marine wood, raw albite stones in contrast with white. The base is very light wood covered with coastal sand, blue linen for the background.

September: Cabernet Sauvignon

Powerful, exuberant, solid, rocky.

The quintessential grape variety of the Bordeaux blend, interpreted by VCR to enhance finesse, smoothing out the too impetuous expression with clones suitable for structured wines (R5, VCR 7, VCR 8, VCR 500) or fresher and fruitier (VCR 11, VCR 489).

Materials: salt flakes, pine, moss, fresh Jerusalem artichoke as a leather recall, strips of pepper, olives, herbs, and spontaneous ears. The stone is a powerful unique conglomerate mass. The base is in Fedrigoni cashmere paper, the background in corten.

October: Pinot Noir

Noble, proud, reliable, rarefied.

Originally from France and Germany and cultivated mainly in the Alpine regions. VCR's clonal selection focuses on high quality and delicacy in white vinification and sparkling base (R4, VCR9, VCR 274), the fragrance of the bouquet, and the structure for red vinification (VCR 18, VCR 20, VCR 453).

Materials: bark, apple tree branches, mushrooms, red currants, moss, hazelnuts. Dark green velvet for the background and plane, enveloping like a resinous forest.

November: Chardonnay

Elegant, intense, round, balanced, leading, fresh.

The most widespread white grape variety in the world, which reflects in a clonal richness with which VCR wants to favor its different interpretations, from fresh and aromatic (R8, VCR4, VCR484), to sparkling (VCR10, VCR11, VCR434), to light aging (VCR6, VCR 481).

Materials: white flowers, banana, tropical fruits, peach, citrus peel and pulp, mint, various circular marbles. The base is composed of various tones of cardstock, white and aquamarine Fedrigoni. Glacial marble background.

December: Nebbiolo

Balsamic, precious, misty, emotional, talismanic.

A delicate grape variety that marks the most prestigious Piedmontese territories. VCR has enhanced its body richness, tannin softness, and aging predisposition with clones like VCR169, VCR172, VCR430 for the Lampia biotype; VCR270, VCR275, VCR278 for the Chiavennasca biotype.

Materials: raspberries, black and red currants, chocolate, hazelnuts with shell and toasted, dog rose berries, charcoal bread powder, natural bitumen stone and bark. Base with black fabric and background with Florentine blue azul marble.
